Constitutionally, the band's objects are :

1. to cultivate the art of music among its members;
2. to provide musical entertainment to the public, in particular to the local community;
3. to provide practical tuition to young and new players.

The configuration of the band is what would traditionally be called "military" in the sense that we have brass, woodwind and percussion instruments.

The band undertakes all kinds of marching and concert enagagements from village children's gala days to formal parades (Princes Street, Edinburgh for example); from informal carol playing to full concert perfomances. The band has undertaken four European tours and has shared the stage with bands and choirs from countries as far apart as Germany and U.S.A.. As the members are all amateur musicians (bandmaster excluded), the rates for engaging the band are very reasonable. Indeed, it often undertakes work on a charitable basis or "donation - only".
